Other long existing callthrough applications like iSkoot don't have a problem with that either.

But why does the bandwidth matter to you?

It's callthrough stupid! So it's a normal mobile phone call. The bandwith in the VoIP end of the call, when it travels through Packet8's network, doesn't matter for that. The Packet8 MobileTalk application doesn't use the internet.

Didn't you notice?

Mozilla Mobile is even more unrelated to the topic of the post. Packet8 won't advance your mobile browsing experience, kiddy.

I wonder why it's always the stupid guys who think they know the entire truth.Markusnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6697567763671240926.post-84494507416456092302007-11-29T12:31:00.000+01:002007-11-29T12:31:00.000+01:00Markus,Congratulations on a very well written arti...Markus,

Congratulations on a very well written article. I completely agree with you that if the whole call process is automated it is a big plus for the end user. People want to use their phones as normally as possible with no Pin Numbers or access numbers to dial first, and if the software kicks in and routes the call via the cheapest option that would be great.

John O'Prey
WiFiMobileAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6697567763671240926.post-90398937352067063792007-12-01T05:42:00.000+01:002007-12-01T05:42:00.000+01:00great idea. but i have a feeling that by the time ...great idea. but i have a feeling that by the time it's all working properlt the best deal will be some sort of VOIP over the data channels. either via SIP or maybe jingle(Gtalk)

the thing is developing this sort of application to work on many different cells phones is a bit more complicated than a hosted PBX service like voxalot that get developed once and sits on a single(or 2 or 3) server(s). therefore it is far less likely to be given away as a free service.

my feeling is that we are less than a year away from flat rate international data roaming. in fact it is already here for blackberries in select markets. with 3G blackberry devices coming expect a very quick release of fring/truphone like applications that will give unlimited SIP calling.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6697567763671240926.post-12332785714430277732007-12-03T11:11:00.000+01:002007-12-03T11:11:00.000+01:00Markus,I am glad you think like us that users just...Markus,

I am glad you think like us that users just want to use their phones and not have to deal with access numbers and wifi access. Interestingly we will be adding a VOIP channel in 2008 that will route the call over the data or Wifi channel. This will be based on the pre-configuration and real time parameters.
I would be interested to talk to you more about this. They are trying to start rumors that 8x8 is somehow involved all the way from the Google phone, to the Mobile Mozilla. You did a great post....it's the whiney crybabys who are down 80% in EGHT who are crying. boo hoo.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6697567763671240926.post-87946854780735100672007-12-06T15:32:00.000+01:002007-12-06T15:32:00.000+01:00Each person who blogs has his/her own style and ex...Each person who blogs has his/her own style and expertise. This post exposes the ongoing struggle in the VoIP industry: making a living, offering a great deal, and opening or not opening the source.

8x8, Inc. since 2002 has offered Packet8 and has been a decent rival to Vonage, Sunrocket (RIP), Lingo and some cable voice over IP packages. They are (in some cases... were) popular with consumers, not just developers and early adopters. Part of the reason for Packet8's success is their emphasis on ROI and marketing, not on open source and price. I'm not an expert. I'm just sharing my observations.
